The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) can thank Canada. In two ways. To host its world headquarters in Montreal, first, since 2002 and at least until 2031. But also for having decided to increase its share of the body's budget. The Government of Canada has in fact allocated to WADA an additional contribution of 748.390 US dollars, an amount which will be mainly devoted to scientific research, investigation and intelligence activities. These funds are in addition to the 1.465 dollars that the Canadian authorities already paid to WADA for the year 962. For the body chaired by the Pole Witold Bańka, Canada's gesture turns out to be a very good deal, since the IOC decided in November 2021 to systematically double all contributions paid by states. Canada's recent commitment will therefore bring nearly 2019 million additional dollars to the global anti-doping system. In December 1,5 and January 2020, WADA announced additional contributions received from the governments of Saudi Arabia, China, Cyprus, Greece, India and Poland, while Egypt and France have also committed to providing an additional contribution. With Canada's contribution, the total pledged under this initiative rises to more than $2021 million.
