World Rowing strikes back. The International Rowing Federation has reacted to the Brazilian Confederation's unilateral announcement ofcancel the 2025 Beach Sprint Finals, scheduled for October in Rio de Janeiro. The FI says itself "surprised by this communication" and assures that she was not consulted. "No party can cancel a World Rowing event unilaterally for the reasons mentioned in the letter from the Brazilian Rowing Confederation", she recalls. "The announcement made by the recently elected leadership of the Brazilian Rowing Confederation would therefore be not in compliance with the obligations of the host contract"
A World Rowing delegation visited Rio in April to review preparations. The IF drew a positive conclusion, expressing its enthusiasm for the event. "At this point, and following a recent visit to Rio where the various stakeholders reaffirmed their clear commitment to hosting this event, World Rowing considers that the 2025 beach sprint finals will take place as planned, announces the FI, which is hoping that the competition will continue. We remain committed to discussing with the parties involved to determine the best way forward and ensure the success of this important event on the road to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
