Beijing closes its stadiums

China

Worrying. The Beijing authorities decided, Monday, June 15, to close sports venues and cancel all current or future competitions. The cause is the start of a second wave of COVID-19. The Chinese capital recorded 36 new cases of people infected with the virus on Sunday. A figure equal to that recorded the day before. Beijing had not seen such a high result since the end of March. Sports and cultural venues have been closed, temperature checks reinstated at the entrance to residential areas, where access is again prohibited to non-residents. The Beijing Guoan football team (photo above), which plays in the Chinese Super League, was forced to cancel a friendly match. Beijing is due to host the next Winter Olympics in February 2022.
