Baseball and softball, which were present at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, were ousted at Paris 2024, but will return at Los Angeles 2028. Eager to take a longer-term view, the international federation (WBSC) has launched its charm offensive with Brisbane 2032 Games to stay on the Olympic program. WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari travelled to Australia to plead the case to Cindy Hook, the OCOG director, and Brendan Keane, the sports director. "Australia has long been a great baseball and softball country, Fraccari emphasizes. During our visit we were privileged to have initial conversations with Brisbane 2032 officials about the potential inclusion of baseball and softball in the Olympics. We sincerely appreciate the time and attention of the organizing committee. The WBSC remains committed to working with its partners in Australia and ensuring the continued success of baseball and softball on the world stage.” Baseball Australia chief executive Glenn Williams applauded the visit: “The presence of President Fraccari and other WBSC representatives in Australia shows a real commitment to baseball and softball in Australia and the importance of having our sport at the Brisbane 2032 Games.” The WBSC has confirmed the establishment of a working group in the run-up to these Games.
