Applications open to carry the Olympic flame

The Olympic and Paralympic torch relay are looking for their future carriers. The organizers of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games have officially opened the application process Wednesday evening at the Sanremo Festival. Interested parties, who must be born before December 5, 2011, can be reported on the event site, explaining the reasons why they would like to be part of the adventure. “The torchbearers, with their stories and experiences, represent the countless facets of our society and the richness of our country, explains Andrea Varnier, general director of Milan-Cortina 2026. Their role is not limited to carrying the torch; they will become the ambassadors of the values ​​embodied by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, reinforcing the idea that sport can inspire the world. Thanks to them, this journey will become a wonderful moment of inclusion, openness and sharing. The Olympic torch relay will involve 10 001 porters for a 63 day journey and 12 000 kilometers through the 110 provinces of Italy. The flame will arrive in Rome on December 4, 2025 and the relay will officially begin on December 6. The Paralympic flame will travel 2.000 kilometers from February 24 to March 6, 2026, day of the opening ceremony at the Arena di Verona. 501 people will take turns throughout the course.
