An Argentinian at the head of FIFPro

Casting change at FIFPro. The world union of professional football players will be chaired for the next four years by an Argentinian. Its annual congress, held from November 26 to 28 in Indonesia, was marked by the election of former defender Sergio Marchi, who notably played for clubs such as San Lorenzo, Almirante Brown and Union de Santa Fe. He succeeds Spaniard David Aganzo to become the first non-European to hold this position. Sergio Marchi was previously chair of FIFPro South America. Alexander Phillips has been appointed general secretary and will officially take up his duties next March. The new FIFPRO World Bureau was also ratified at the general assembly. It is composed of twelve members including Frenchman David Terrier, president of FIFPro Europe. Finally, Iceland, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan become full members of FIFPRO, while Lithuania and Northern Ireland move from observer to candidate member status.
