American football in good place for Birmingham 2022

World Games

American football could well appear on the program for the next World Games, scheduled for 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama (United States). The discipline has just been officially proposed, exactly two years before the start of the event. The reason: the construction of a new American football stadium, the Protective Stadium, with a capacity of 45.000 seats. It must be delivered in the fall of 2021. The project was considered too far away for the World Games in Birmingham, initially planned for the summer of 2021. But their postponement to the year 2022, following the one-year delay of the Tokyo Games, makes the entry of American football into the program more realistic. According to the site AroundtheRings, the executive committee of the International World Games Federation (IWGA) has already given the green light. The addition of American football, as a guest sport, must still be approved by the IWGA general assembly, scheduled for May 2021.
