
Still of change in the landscape of national Olympic committees. While South Korea, Turkey, Portugal and Honduras have recently elected a new president, while waiting for France in June, the Austrian Olympic Committee (OOC) has adopted a new leader. Horst Nussbaumer (pictured above, right) was elected president of the OOC in Vienna at the organization's general assembly on Monday. The 53-year-old former rower received 42 out of 48 votes and succeeds Karl Stoss (left in the photo), who led the OCC for 15 years. "It is a great privilege and an honor to be able to serve the Olympic movement and the Olympic federations as President of the Austrian Olympic Committee"he replied. The goal is to create the best possible conditions so that our athletes, our coaches and the entire community achieve high-level performances.” Nussbaumer, who has participated in three Olympic Games, wanted to salute the achievements of the team previously in place: « The Austrian Olympic Committee is now strong, stable and internationally recognized.We can and will continue on this path.. » He is the first Olympian to chair the OOC since swimmer Otto Herschmann, who led the organization between 1912 and 1914.
