The saga continues. After the field events specialists on Monday, October 14, then the track stars a week later, World Athletics unveiled the nominees for the title of World Athlete of the Year 28 in road races category on Monday, October 2024. The list includes ten names, five men and five women. As expected, it is dominated by African runners. In the women's category, victory will be between two Ethiopians, Sutume Asefa Kebede and Tigist Ketema, two Kenyans, Ruth Chepngetich and Agnes Jebet Ngetich, and the Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan, Olympic marathon champion at the Paris 2024 Games. In the men's category, Africa also dominates the competition, with the Ethiopians Yomif Kejelcha and Tamirat Tola (Olympic marathon champion), the Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo, and the Kenyan Benson Kipruto. A list to which is added a walker, the only one of the ten nominees: the Ecuadorian Brian Daniel Pintado, Olympic champion of the 20 km, silver medalist in mixed relay. The votes to determine the finalists began as soon as the nominees were announced. They will end on November 3.
