Less than 900 days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, Agence France Presse (AFP) is getting into battle gear. She announces the appointment of Vincent Amalvy to the position of Director of Major Events. His role will be to “ promote the overall production of sports content associated with these major events", including the management of resources, the production by the Factstory subsidiary of tailor-made content for sports institutions and businesses, and finally the development of technological, commercial and editorial innovations adapted to the world of sport. After beginnings at the regional daily Southwest France, Vincent Amalvy joined AFP as a photo reporter in Bordeaux in 1990. Appointed to Jerusalem in the fall of 1995, he became head of photo reporting in France in 1997, then editor-in-chief of photography in 2000. After a stint at Washington in 2006, he was named head of the sports department in 2011. Since 2016, Vincent Amalvy has been head of photography for Asia, based in Hong Kong, where he was also in charge of organizing major sporting events for the agency.
