The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce that it has signed a two-year agreement with theInternational Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the professional center for privacy, AI governance and digital responsibility worldwide.
The lesson Privacy and Data Protection Basics (English link only) of the IAPP will play a key role in raising privacy awareness among members of the anti-doping community and in providing stakeholders with essential data protection expertise by providing privacy training licenses to Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs), which include International Federations, National Anti-Doping Organizations and Major Event Organizations.
The virtual training courses offered by the IAPP will provide ADOs with the basic knowledge needed to properly implement policies that comply with the International standard for the protection of personal information, the mandatory international standard that ensures that all signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code apply effective privacy protection measures to the personal information they process in the context of their anti-doping programs.
“WADA is excited about the tangible benefits that this partnership with IAPP will bring to our stakeholders,” said WADA President Witold Bańka. “By aligning global privacy practices and helping to ensure consistent and responsible handling of sensitive data, this partnership supports WADA’s goal of protecting the integrity of sport and the rights of athletes, while demonstrating a proactive commitment to safeguarding personal information in an evolving regulatory landscape.”
The IAPP course on the fundamentals of privacy and data protection will be made available to Category 1 OAD and participants to the Global Learning and Development Framework of the AMA. The program combines theoretical and practical content that teaches fundamental privacy concepts, legal models and emerging issues, namely:
- Key concepts in privacy protection;
- Fair information practices;
- Data lifecycle;
- Model data protection legislation;
- Key privacy and data protection laws;
- Case studies; and
- Emerging themes in privacy protection.
“The IAPP looks forward to working with WADA for years to come as the Foundation Course will be an invaluable resource for members of the global anti-doping community,” said IAPP President and CEO Trevor Hughes. “The organizations will cultivate internal privacy knowledge in operational areas that are increasingly assuming responsibility in this area. The IAPP is pleased to support WADA in its unwavering commitment to protecting athlete privacy.”
