The Parade of Champions: France celebrates those who made the Paris 2024 Games a success

Communiqué

Saturday, September 14, from 14:00 p.m.

On September 14, the President of the Republic expressed the wish that the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe be transformed into a true place of celebration and celebration to honor the athletes of the French Olympic and Paralympic team who shone during the Games, alongside the volunteers, organizers and the sports movement who contributed to the success of this historic edition. This Parade of Champions will end with an exceptional concert that will allow us to remember and relive the highlights of the ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Games.

A Parade on the most beautiful avenue in the world to the Arc de Triomphe

This moment of sharing and celebration will begin at 16 p.m. with a grand parade. For the first time, more than 300 athletes from the French Olympic and Paralympic teams will parade together, a symbol for this united French team that has thrilled us so much. They will be preceded by volunteers who contributed to the wonderful atmosphere in the venues and to welcoming millions of visitors, organizers and representatives of the French sports movement who worked behind the scenes for years to ensure the success of the Games.

The meeting is on the Champs Elysées where France is accustomed to gathering and celebrating its triumphs. Contrary to custom, this procession will parade on a stage and go up the Avenue des Champs-Élysées from Avenue Georges V towards the Arc de Triomphe. This is unprecedented and it is an immense symbol of recognition to thank all those who contributed to this historic success.

Many Olympic and Paralympic athletes and para-athletes will take part in the celebrations, such as Léon Marchand and the Portal brothers who rocked the Paris La Défense Arena, Timothée Adolphe and Gloria Agblemagnon who rocked the Stade de France, Teddy Riner and Sandrine Martinet for whom the French held their breath, and Cassandre Beaugrand and Alexis Hanquinquant, both victorious in the individual triathlon and Para triathlon events. This is the first time that Olympic and Paralympic athletes will parade and be decorated together in public.

Unveiled during the arrival of the Flame in Marseille on May 8, the official musical theme of Paris 2024, “Parade” will resonate once again to accompany this parade of champions. This music will be available on music platforms from Friday, September 13.

A solemn ceremony for the presentation of decorations open to the public for the first time

The Olympic and Paralympic medallists will receive their republican decoration in public for the first time from 18:30 p.m., at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe, in front of thousands of people.

For the occasion, the President of the Republic wanted a ceremony adapted to allow each athlete or para-athlete to be decorated, all at the same time but individually, by an athlete who has himself been decorated in the past. These decorations are made possible because only those decorated with a National Order can themselves decorate a third party.

Thus, the Head of State, accompanied by several authorities and many former Olympic and Paralympic champions, will decorate their peers, in a place marked by transmission and in a historic format.

Party until the end: a concert to conclude the Paris 2024 Games in style

After the parade, the festivities will continue with an exceptional concert on the Place de l'Etoile. All the ingredients will be there to experience one last great moment of celebration. Many renowned artists who have marked the ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be present to offer a moment of music and joy, in the festive spirit of the Games. The evening promises to be vibrant and full of energy, with musical performances that will have the audience dancing until late into the night.

This event is open to all and free upon prior registration via the platform parade.paris2024.org. Thousands of people are invited to round off the adventure of the Games in France in style and bring the magic of sport to life once again. This event will be broadcast live on France TV.

"The Paris 2024 Games will forever have a special place in our memories. Thanks to our artists, our civil servants, our elected officials, our volunteers, our athletes, France has lived up to the magic of the games and its universal vocation. On Saturday, the Republic will salute the exceptional performances of our athletes, during a ceremony to decorate the Olympic and Paralympic medalists.

This afternoon that I wish will be like our Paris Games: popular, warm, full of sharing and French spirit. I invite everyone to come and celebrate our Blues, whom we carry faithfully in our hearts." Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic.

"All summer long, our French athletes and para-athletes thrilled us. In Paris, their exploits sparked immense fervor and joy, making our Games a global, festive and popular event! After dreaming to the rhythm of their exploits and incredible performances, Parisians will have the opportunity to cheer them on Saturday.Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris.

“The Paris 2024 Games were exceptional and a tremendous success. A sporting success of course, because with their 5th place at the Olympic Games and their 8th place at the Paralympic Games, our athletes from the unified French Team achieved particularly brilliant results. The success is also that of a magnificent and flawless organization, in terms of transport, security and accessibility. Finally, a truly collective success, the fruit of the gathering of skills and energies of women and men from all walks of life. We therefore wanted, in keeping with the ambition that has driven us since 2017, to organize a celebration worthy of these Games. See you on Saturday, September 14, on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, to honor our athletes and para athletes who thrilled us, brought us together and made Olympism, French sport and France shine! David Lappartient, President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee.

"This parade of champions is a wonderful illustration of our beautiful united French team, a French team that has risen to its date with history… proud, conquering and victorious. This summer of 2024 was a total success, both for the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games and we are delighted to extend the celebration one last time, in such a symbolic place with all the heroes of the games: the athletes, the volunteers, the sports movement, the supporters. This September 14 will certainly mark the end of the games but without a doubt the beginning of something much greater for French sport and Para sport.. " Marie-Amélie Le Fur, President of the French Paralympic and Sports Committee.

"Paris 2024 is above all a collective, a big family. There are of course the athletes, who have made France and the whole world dream, but also all those who have mobilized to organize absolutely exceptional Games: teams from the Organizing Committee, volunteers, companies... So rather than saying goodbye this Sunday, September 8, we will conclude the Paris 2024 adventure in as beautiful a way as we began it: by partying in the heart of the city, on the most beautiful avenue in the world, with this incredible audience who have created a fiery atmosphere all summer!Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024.
