Paris 2024 Olympic Games: CNOSF Board of Directors welcomes exceptional results

The Board of Directors of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) met on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 October at the Maison du sport français. The directors drew up a very positive initial assessment of the results of the French delegation and the organisation of Club France during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and discussed the upcoming deadlines and strategic directions to be pursued for the French sports movement.

A first assessment of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The administrators were keen to recall the exceptional summer experienced by the French sports movement. First of all, from a sporting perspective, Astrid Guyart, Secretary General of the CNOSF, highlighted the historic performances of the athletes and management of the French Team, as well as the unprecedented support systems put in place to put them in the best possible conditions during the Paris 2024 Games: " With 64 medals won (16 gold; 26 silver; 22 bronze) at home, the French Olympic delegation has managed to achieve the objective of appearing in the Top 5 of the nations ranking " An ambition of excellence that the President of the CNOSF, David Lappartient, wishes for " register in the long term for the next Olympic and sporting events ».

On the organizational and operational level, the administrators were pleased to see the CNOSF at the rendezvous of this major event. A mobilization of all its members, symbolized in particular by the unprecedented promotion of the sporting activity, proposed by the federations to the general public this summer at the Club France, in the Parc de la Villette. Nathalie Péchalat, deputy president of the Club France, returned to the popular, sporting, institutional and media success of the beating heart of the French Team, confirmed in particular by an attendance of more than 600.000 visitors during the Olympic fortnight. Even though it is still too early to give a quantified assessment of Club France before the closing of the accounts, the lighting is sufficient to underline the success of this system and this investment in the service of the development of the practice and the media coverage of the French delegation as a whole. ", stressed Michel Callot, treasurer of the CNOSF.

The Board of Directors applauded the commitment of all CNOSF employees to the organization and success of all the projects carried out before and during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Now, resolutely focused on the Legacy of these Games, the administrators returned to the launch of the dedicated commission of the National Sports Agency (ANS), chaired by Gilles Erb as representative of the Sports Movement. Particular emphasis was placed on the Educational Legacy for which the CNOSF will mobilize unprecedented financial and human resources from 2025, particularly within the framework of the Olympic and Paralympic Week (SOP).

The 2030 French Alps Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

This Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the Prime Minister, Mr. Michel Barnier, transmitted the State's financial guarantee letter to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Mr. Thomas Bach. A condition set by the international Olympic body when awarding the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games to the French Alps, on July 24, during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris. President David Lappartient renewed his thanks to the Prime Minister and the State services before the administrators for their support throughout the candidacy launched in July 2023. This letter of commitment constitutes a new milestone reached by the French Alps 2030, whose stakeholders are currently working on the constitution of the organizing committee (COJOP). He also highlighted the unwavering commitment of the President of the Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, and the strong investment of the two Regions and the French Paralympic and Sports Committee.

The date of the 2025 CNOSF elective general assembly set

Closing the 2020-2024 Olympiad, the 2025 General Assembly will see the renewal of the CNOSF's governing bodies. On the proposal of the Executive Board, the Board of Directors has today set the date of the Thursday June 19 2025 for the holding of its next ordinary elective General Meeting. The election procedures will be available on the CNOSF website.

Three new members join the Conference of Conciliators

The appointment of three new members to the Conference of Conciliators was on the agenda of this Board of Directors. On the proposal of the Ethics Committee, the candidacies of Isabelle Gorce, First President of the Bordeaux Court of Appeal, David Jacotot, Professor of Private Law and Criminal Sciences, Co-Director of the Master 2 in Sports Legal Professions at the University of Burgundy, and François-Xavier Manteaux, President of the Saint-Etienne Judicial Court, were approved by the CNOSF Board of Directors.

A busy sports season

In addition, the CNOSF Board of Directors had the opportunity to review the current topics of this sporting season: the 15th edition of Sentez-vous Sport; the deployment of the fourth edition of Pass'Sport; the organization of the next Week-end Bleu from October 25 to 27 in Montpellier on the occasion of the WTT Champions; the organization in November of the 5th national convention for the prevention of violence in sport; the issues surrounding Esport, in particular in connection with the announcement this summer, on the sidelines of the 142nd IOC Session, of the creation of the Esport Olympic Games.
