From August 24 to September 5, 2027, France and the Haute-Savoie region will host more than 15.000 athletes for the second edition of the UCI Super World Cycling Championships. The past weekend was a great opportunity to celebrate the 365-day countdown. The event took place in Sallanches, which will be a hub for road racing next year. The sun was shining, and the energy and enthusiasm were palpable, promising a fantastic celebration in 2027.
Demonstrations, champions and cyclosportive events
As an ambassador, Bernard Hinault naturally gave it his all. The champion participated in a parade along part of the online race route. Members of the public also had the opportunity to cycle on connected bikes in Place Charles Albert, contributing to the total distance of 2027 kilometers. It took five hours of teamwork to reach this symbolic milestone. Demonstrations punctuated Saturday's events. More officially, the Tissot countdown was inaugurated in the presence of local figures and sports personalities such as Olympic champion Julie Bresset (mountain biking), biathlon legend Martin Fourcade, three-time Olympic medalist Alexis Pinturault (alpine skiing), and Olympic ski mountaineering champion Emily Harrop.
« This day allowed us to gauge how strong the anticipation already is and how prevalent the enthusiasm is in the region., says Michel Callot, president of the organizing committee. This momentum will be invaluable to all the teams who are working tirelessly every day to make 2027 an event worthy of this exceptional occasion and to offer all cycling enthusiasts an unforgettable experience. “Enrico Della Casa, vice-president of the International Cycling Union (UCI), was able to witness the enthusiasm on site: We are delighted to officially launch the countdown to this exceptional event. With 20 separate UCI World Championships brought together in one place, this edition will be the largest cycling and para-cycling event ever organized, and for nearly two weeks, our sport will shine like never before, supported by a Haute-Savoie region worthy of this historic event. »
On Sunday, cycling was once again in the spotlight with the first edition of the Haute Savoie Mont-Blanc Classic – Bernard Hinault Experience cyclosportive. More than 1.200 cyclists participated, riding either 105 or 165 kilometers. This event, conceived as a legacy of the 2027 World Championships, notably included the legendary Côte de Domancy, which will feature in the peloton's route next year. The route of this cycling event is a reminder of just how incredible a sporting venue our region is for cycling enthusiasts., says Martial Saddier, president of the Haute Savoie departmental council. This event brings us a step closer to the 2027 UCI Road World Championships in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc. We can't wait to welcome the best riders and cycling enthusiasts from all over the world! »
