The European Youth Olympic Festival is in full swing in Skopje. And while visitors can watch the events on-site for free, tens of thousands are also following the event remotely thanks to the EOC TV platformLaunched in 2019, it is now approaching cruising speed: in 2023, it recorded 500.000 views and nearly 100.000 viewers during the Winter EYOF in Italy. The following summer, the EYOF in Maribor accumulated 1,1 million views and 190.000 viewers. An essential asset for the European Olympic Committees.
Adapting to public habits
EOC TV offers more than 7.500 videos on demand, representing approximately 2.200 hours of content, covering all editions of the EYOF since 2003, three editions of the European Games and the recent Games of the Small States of Europe. In today's digital age, EOC TV is more important than ever, underlines Carlo Mornati, general secretary of the COE, questioned by Francs Jeux. The way people consume sports has changed significantly in recent years. EOC TV was launched to take fan engagement and interest in EOC events to new heights. "The body currently devotes 1% of its budget to this streaming platform.
« The Festival has always been a popular sporting event, providing a valuable educational experience for young athletes. We are now able to offer them an unparalleled exposure opportunity. ", welcomed Spyros Capralos, President of the EOC, in 2023. An asset for the athletes, therefore, but also for the events, which can rely on these audiences to develop their commercial partnerships. After two days of competition in Skopje, the platform had already recorded 100.000 views for athletics, 80.000 for badminton and 60.000 for basketball.

AI to go further
The Skopje EYOF, which will conclude on Saturday, July 26, is being broadcast live with 26 dedicated streams to ensure maximum visibility. EOC TV's content continues to evolve to meet audience demand. During the last Summer EYOF in Maribor in 2023, we introduced daily highlight recaps. We're also offering more behind-the-scenes content to go beyond just broadcasting competition footage. " explains Carlo Mornati. Satisfied with the results obtained, the COE Secretary General adds that artificial intelligence could be used in the future to further improve the service.
AI is already being used by the organization to provide personalized clips to athletes, NOCs, and federations. This content can then be quickly shared on social media. This feature was introduced at the 2023 European Games, reused at the Summer EYOF in Maribor, and further developed at the 2025 Winter EYOF in Bakuriani, recalls Mornati. AI automatically generates clips for athletes, streamlining operations and ensuring personalized clips are delivered as quickly as possible. This process has been further simplified with a dedicated app, and we're excited to see it continue in Skopje 2025. » The COEs have indeed taken the digital turn!
