LA28 on track to host the most lucrative Games in history

Los Angeles 2028 Focus

Paris 2024 was a hit, but Los Angeles 2028 is poised to do even better. Financially, at least. The organizing committee is showing great confidence in this aspect, as evidenced by the ambitious goals it has set. It seems they're on the right track, as five partnerships have been announced in the space of a month, and seven since the beginning of March. This is just the beginning.

Seven more contracts announced this year?

CDW is the latest partner to join the adventure, on June 12. A few days earlier, the car manufacturer Honda signed on as a founding partner, the highest level of partnership. This is a strong signal, as only two companies, Comcast and Delta, had previously been in this category. We are very confident in the progress we have made., confided Casey Wasserman, president of LA28, following the recent visit of the coordinating committeeWe are focused on what we have always done, which is to deliver the biggest possible Games in this city, in the most fiscally responsible way possible, which benefits everyone in our Olympic Movement and our community. »

LA28 now has three founding partners, six official partners, and eleven official supporters. According to John Slusher, LA28's executive director of commercial operations, the list is set to grow rapidly: he expects to close between seven and nine additional contracts this year. "I can tell you that, in our position today, we are very confident in our ability to meet or exceed that $2,5 billion target.", he explains to the LA TimesMore than 60% of this sponsorship target has already been achieved. This gives us greater confidence in the future, as these partnerships are expected to cover approximately one-third of the announced cost of the Games ($7,1 billion).

"We give to the city, we don't take from it."

Nicole Hoevertsz, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission, welcomed " the caliber of new partnerships " concluded by the organizing committee, considering that it valued " the power of the Olympic Games to bring people together and create long-term value " LA28's performance is noteworthy in a troubled economic climate, both nationally and internationally. Another lever is expected to be activated in 2026: the opening of registrations to participate in the ticket raffle, which will represent $2,5 billion.

« Our job is to maximize revenue, recalls Casey Wasserman. I am very confident in our ability to generate more revenue than ever before for a Summer Games in the history of the Olympic Games. "The president of LA28 makes it a point of honor that the event be entirely financed by private funds, in accordance with the promise made when the City of Angels applied: " The last thing a taxpayer should worry about is us. We know how to do it. We prove it every day and we will prove it throughout the process. In every sense of the word, we give to the city, not take from it. »
