After Belgium, South Africa. FrancsJeux continues its guided tour of the clubs and houses of the national Olympic committees at the Paris 2024 Games. The Belgium House, in the very chic 8th arrondissement, opened the series. Continuation of the journey to the House of South Africa.
The Memorial
A must-see: the Parc des Nations, in the Parc de la Villette, east of Paris. The Team South Africa House shares space with a dozen other hospitality venues, including the immense Club France and the first Indian House. The South Africans have taken over the Little Villette, a building usually intended for children.
The decor
The space is long, mainly composed of a gallery where South African objects and artistic works are exhibited. At the back, a room broadcasts the events on a giant screen.
The price
Access is free for the general public, but it does not offer drinks or food.
The atmosphere
Calm. At least for now. The Team South Africa House is intended to be more a place for visiting than for celebrating. People come there like in a gallery, without any real intention of staying.
The public
Very mixed, with a large number of curious people coming to visit the place. In the back room, where the giant screen stands, a few South Africans are following the broadcasts.
Why you have to go there
To discover the artistic culture of South Africa, and to follow the Games on a giant screen without having to pay for an entry ticket.
Why is it not essential
Little atmosphere and small dimensions. There is also little indication of free broadcasting of the events on screen.
