The territories take part in the Games

Aube, a resolutely Olympic department

— Published September 27, 2022

  1. Less than two years before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games, the mobilization of French municipalities and territories to be Games Preparation Centers (CPJ) is still gaining speed. The COJO has compiled a catalog of 560 training sites. It is proposed to the national Olympic committees, whose next general assembly is to be held in October (19 to 21) in Seoul, South Korea.
  2. Located less than two hours from Paris, the Aube department has no shortage of attractions. FrancsJeux questioned Philippe Pichery, the president of the Departmental Council.

FrancsJeux : What is your CPJ offer in detail?

Philippe Pichery : Aube has 12 CPJ-certified sports infrastructures. CIME, in Troyes, is an international multi-sport complex, dedicated to climbing, badminton, basketball, boccia, handball, table tennis and volleyball (photo above). Also in Troyes, a BMX track; the sports hall for weightlifting, breaking, artistic gymnastics, judo and taekwondo; the Pierre Voillequin stadium for athletics and triathlon; the Chartreux swimming pool (swimming, triathlon and water polo; the Jacques Diot and André Keslick weapons room for fencing; the Cosec André Père for breaking; and finally the artistic and rhythmic gymnastics hall. In St-Julien -les-Villas, the Fernand Ganne gymnasium is CPJ for basketball, handball and volleyball. In Mathaux, the nautical base has been selected for rowing, canoe-kayak racing, para-rowing and para -canoe. The Romilly-sur-Seine sports complex is used for athletics. In Nogent-sur-Seine, the sports hall can be used for all combat sports disciplines. All of this equipment is accessible to PRMs and adapted to the practice of parasport. Aube also benefits, in Troyes, from a sports center equipped with all the amenities (80 rooms including 36 PMR, i.e. 200 beds, catering, screening rooms, etc.) located in the heart of a mini Olympic village, in direct proximity to sports facilities as well as a sports medicine institute and a hospital.

What are the advantages of these equipments and the Aube department?

Aube has multiple advantages. Most of the sports infrastructures are new, the others having been renovated in preparation for the Paris 2024 Games. Athletes will therefore be able to benefit from very high-level facilities. In addition to the diversity and quality of these sports infrastructures, Aube is a department located less than two hours from Paris, easy to access, quiet and green. It has always been a land of multicultural welcome.

  1. How do you plan to support the reception of foreign delegations before the Paris 2024 Games?

As soon as they arrive on our territory, they will be taken care of optimally on a sporting and extra-sporting level. We will be at their service during their stay, with personalized and privileged support, to meet their needs. We are able to offer them numerous activities and help them discover the charms and pleasures of Aube, whether fun, cultural or gastronomic (visit to the Champagne cellars, the lakes of the Orient forest, from the historic heart of Troyes…). We want to involve the population in this major event and experience welcoming foreign delegations as a celebration: decoration in the colors of the country concerned, meeting with school audiences, the sports movement, but obviously respecting privacy and calm. necessary for their preparation. Aube is a region that is resolutely motivated and committed to Paris 2024. As soon as France was designated as host country for the Games in 2024, the department mobilized with communities, representatives of clubs and sports committees to bring together, federate and unite the people of Aubois around the event. This collective momentum, geared towards high-level sport, also promotes the development of sporting practice for all. Since 2017, we have increased the number of events organized as part of our Terre de Jeux 2024 label. And we will have the pleasure of welcoming the Olympic flame in June or July 2024 as a relay stage department.

What impact/legacy could welcoming foreign delegations have, beyond the Games, for the department?

We took advantage of this major sporting event to work alongside communities to build and renovate numerous sports facilities. They will be used by the entire population before, during and after the Games. Welcoming high-level athletes should allow us to breathe new life into encouraging everyone to practice physical activity. In addition, these infrastructures will allow us to organize national and international competitions.

What types of delegations do you hope to receive?

All delegations who choose Aube to prepare Paris 2024 in the best conditions will be welcome.
