An English version, to extend the influence of the French-speaking world

December 2019. After a few weeks of exchanges and discussions, and a beneficial campaign in support of the Olympic movement, FrancsJeux announced that he had consigned his plan of renunciation to the oblivion of history. “The flame still burns”, we could say to illustrate the beginning of this second life.

December 2020. The French-speaking reference site of the Olympic movement is changing dimension. He is now bilingual. An English version of the article of the day and other current topics has been offered every day since the end of last month, with a delay of only a few hours on the French edition.

Twelve months have passed. They were marked for FrancJeux by the assurance of being able to continue to cover the daily news of the international sports movement, its institutions, its events and its actors. The site owes this to its association with the Olbia consulting agency, specialized in supporting sports players for their development, communication and strategy. It also owes a lot to its supporters: the AFCNO, the A2FT, BeSport, Bloch Consulting, IFSO, Spartner.

Proposing an English version could be interpreted as a step backwards for the French language. It is not so. Unlike a large number of international federations, whose titles have abandoned French for an English-speaking version, FrancsJeux do not replace one language with another. The site does not take away. He adds.

By offering an English version, we aim to reach a new audience. Wider. More universal, too. By adding a second language, we are showing our desire to extend the influence of the French-speaking world in the international sports movement.

In the Olympic Charter, the two languages are presented as official, but the document specifies: “ In case of discrepancy between the text French and the English text of the Olympic Charter and any other IOC document, the text French will be authentic. » For several weeks, we have been following the same course of action. Two languages, but French in the lead. Good reading. Enjoy reading.
