For players, the 2014 World Cup is still conditional. The qualification phase is not yet over. The draw is only scheduled for December 6, 2013. But for future spectators of the event, the concrete things begin now. The first tickets for the World Cup in Brazil go on sale on Wednesday August 21 at 10:00 GMT. Marketing offered exclusively on the Internet.
Around one million tickets, or a third of the total number planned by the organizers, are available to the public for this first of three sales phases, which will end on October 10. At least 300.000 of these tickets are in category 4, the most affordable, with attractive prices between 15 and 82,5 dollars (between 11 and 62 euros). Clarification: places in this category are reserved for “Brazilian citizens over 60 years old, Brazilian students and beneficiaries of Brazilian family allowances. ". Clearly, not for everyone, far from it, even in the host country.
But foreign supporters are not excluded from this first sales phase. They simply only have access to the three other, more expensive, categories of places. Example with the opening match of the World Cup, scheduled for June 12, 2014 at the Itaquerao stadium in Sao Paulo, a meeting which will pit Spain, the defending champion, against an as yet unknown opponent. Places will cost 495 dollars (371 euros) in category 1, 330 dollars (247 euros) in category 2 and 220 dollars (165 euros) in category 3. Tickets for the final on July 13, 2014 at the Maracana will cost 990 dollars in category 1 (742 euros), 660 dollars (495 euros) in category 2 and 440 dollars (330 euros) in category 3. Not really for all budgets.
FIFA clarification: the exact date of requests will not be taken into account. Clearly, first come will not necessarily be first served. All requests will be collected and processed together after the closing date. In the event that requests prove to be greater than the number of places, a highly predictable scenario, a draw will take place to determine the lucky winners.
The World Cup will take place in Brazil, in twelve cities, between June 12 and July 13, 2014. It should attract, according to the Brazilian authorities, around 600.000 foreign tourists.
