Like every start of the month, the selection of FrancsJeux events, sporting or institutional, not to be missed over the next four weeks.
July 3 and 4 – Extraordinary IOC session in Lausanne. It’s time for the big oral exam for Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo. The three candidate cities for the 2020 Games are invited to Lausanne, at the Château de Beaulieu, to present their file to the members of the IOC. Istanbul, Tokyo, then Madrid, in that order, will have 90 minutes to convince, Wednesday July 3. The next day, a question-and-answer session will be organized by the same cities, at the Lausanne Palace hotel, for IOC members who wish.
July 4 – Election of the organizing city of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. The members of the IOC do not know any respite. After having worked on the files of the candidates for the 2020 Games, they will have to elect the host city of the 2018 Summer YOG. In the running, three applicants: Buenos Aires (Argentina), Medellin (Colombia) and Glasgow (Scotland).
July 21 – Arrival of the Tour de France in Paris. The hundredth edition of the Grande Boucle ends on the Champs-Elysées, at the end of a stage where the peloton will have circled the Place de l'Etoile six times. Will it have been, once again, marked by doping cases? The answer to this question could play a major role in the battle between Pat McQuaid and Brian Cookson for the presidency of the UCI.
25 juillet au 4 aott - World Games in Cali. The ninth edition of these World Games is being held in Colombia and brings together, like the previous ones, the main disciplines not included in the Olympic Games program (karate parachuting, bowling, roller skating, etc.). A form of compensation for those “forgotten” by the Games. Squash, still in the race to join the Olympic program from 2020, will seek to seduce, convince and attract votes.
26 and 27 July – London and Great Britain celebrate the anniversary of the 2012 Games with a two-day Diamond League meeting at the Olympic Stadium. The stars there should be British: Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis and Greg Rutherford.
