Like every start of the month, the selection of FrancsJeux events, sporting or institutional, not to be missed over the next four weeks.
May 3 to 5 – International Convention of Sport in Africa (CISA) in Dakar. Firstrd edition of the CISA returns to Dakar, Senegal, where it was organized for the first time in 2007. An annual meeting attended by all that African sport counts as leaders, experts and representatives of the media. On the program, a discussion forum (financing of African sport, future of the African Games, role of local authorities, etc.), an exhibition, a seminar for sports journalists... The three candidate cities for the 2020 Games, Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo, are there represented.
May 3 to 19 – World Ice Hockey Championships in Stockholm and Helsinki. On the sidelines of the matches, played in two countries, Sweden and Finland, the world tournament will be an opportunity for the leaders of the IIHF and the NHL to discuss the participation, or not, of players from the North American League in the Sochi Games in 2014.
May 23 – Elective general assembly of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee in Paris. The only candidate declared to date, Denis Masseglia is seeking a second term at the head of the CNOSF. An election where the French sports movement will have to show its unity and solidarity, at a time when political power has entrusted it with the keys to international relations.
May 26 to 31 – SportAccord Convention in Saint Petersburg. The major meeting of spring. The bench and the back bench of the international sports movement meet in Saint Petersburg. The two highlights: the IOC Executive Board meeting (May 29-31), during which the eight candidate sports on the 2020 Games program will make a presentation, and the election of the next SportAccord president, announced as a two-legged match between Frenchman Bernard Lapasset and Austrian Marius Vizer.
May 27 to 1er June. European Games of Small States in Luxembourg. “Small is beautiful”, this could be the motto of these European Games, the 15th of the name, reserved for European countries with less than a million inhabitants. The event is organized this year in Luxembourg. It is expected to bring together nine states: Cyprus, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Iceland, Malta and Luxembourg.
May 30 and 31. FIFA Congress in Mauritius. For his 63rd edition, the FIFA Congress chose a vacation spot, Mauritius. But the event is important, since its members must elect, for the first time, a woman to the executive committee of the international football institution. Four candidates are in the running: Lydia Nsekera (Burundi), Sonia Bien-Aime (Turks and Caicos Islands), Paula Kearns (New Zealand), Moya Dodd (Australia).
