Youth will be allowed to try

The International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) continues its series of tests of its new discipline, the obstacle course. After a first experience at the end of June in Ankara, then a second one on August 6 and 7 in Manila, Philippines, it announces a third test next month (September 9 and 10), on the Italian beach of Lignano Sabbiadoro. It will take place on the sidelines of the World Youth Championships (under 17 and 19 years old), scheduled for September 4 to 11. This time, the life-size obstacle course test will be reserved for young competitors, with a different format from the first two tests, as it will take place during an official competition. On each of the two days, a test of the obstacle course will be organized one hour after the end of the event. The Italian clubs present will also have the opportunity to test the course, built for the first time on a beach. The organization and management of the race will be carried out in collaboration with UIPM, the International Federation of Obstacle Sports (FISO), the Japanese broadcasting group Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS) and Spartan Race. At the end of the testing and evaluation phase, the 2022 UIPM Congress will be asked to vote on the new format of the modern pentathlon to be submitted to the IOC for the Los Angeles Games in 2028.
