A fine reward for the International Taekwondo Federation (World Taekwondo). The body chaired by South Korea’s Chungwon Choue (pictured above, right, with Thomas Bach and Ng Ser Miang) received the Olympic Cup for 2023 in Lausanne on Wednesday November 15. It was presented by the IOC to his humanitarian foundation (Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, THF), in recognition of its commitment to supporting refugees, athletes and non-athletes alike, around the world through taekwondo. Since its creation in 2015, it has notably developed programs in refugee camps in Jordan, Rwanda, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) and Turkey. The IOC recalls this in a press release: World Taekwondo was a partner of the very first Refugee Olympic Team at the Rio 2016 Games. Of the 63 refugees currently holding IOC scholarships, 14 are taekwondo specialists. The Olympic Cup was created by Pierre de Coubertin. Awarded for the first time in 1906, it is today the highest distinction awarded to an organization that has worked to promote the ideals of the Olympic movement.
