World Rowing is opening up the human rights issue. The world rowing body has announced that it has joined the network of the Centre for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR), an NGO based in the canton of Geneva, Switzerland. As part of this agreement, World Rowing will work with the CSHR and its partners to, among other things, “develop guidance and best practices to strengthen understanding of human rights challenges arising in the world of sport“. Commented Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing: “Expectations in sport are changing, and sports organisations are looking to understand and demonstrate their commitment to respecting human rights. We see responsible sport, in all its forms, as fundamental to the governance of our sport and a key driver of its sustainable growth.“
