World Boxing announces its first six members

The list is open. Timidly, but surely. World Boxing, the new international body for Olympic boxing, rival and competitor to the IBA, has unveiled its first six members in a press release. As expected, the boxing federations of the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, England and the Netherlands have officially joined World Boxing. The list is not lacking in prestige. These first six national federations have been granted the status of full members. As such, they can nominate candidates for the various positions up for election at the body’s first annual congress, scheduled for November. By officially joining World Boxing, the six federations are definitively leaving the IBA, as the latter’s statutes stipulate that it is not possible to belong to two international federations at the same time.
