World Athletics has completed its prize list

The list is complete. World Athletics announced on Monday 5 December the names of the last four winners of its annual awards for 2022. Unsurprisingly, the coveted titles of Athlete of the Year were awarded to the two favourites, American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Swede Mondo Duplantis. Already awarded the Revelation of the Year trophy four years earlier, they logically dominated the competition at the end of a season in which they both accumulated titles and world records. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone twice broke her world record in the 400m hurdles, in 51 sec 41 at the US Championships, then in 50 sec 68 at the World Championships in Eugene, where she also won the gold medal in the 4x400m. Arnaud “Mondo” Duplantis, on the other hand, set three world records in the pole vault, including a 6.21m performance at the World Championships in Eugene, won the outdoor and indoor world titles, won 18 of his 19 competitions and jumped 23 times at six metres or more. Finally, the World Athletics Revelation of the Year trophies were awarded to Serbian javelin thrower Adriana Vilagos and American sprinter Erriyon Knighton.
