The movement is underway, and there is no turning back: women are gaining ground in the world of refereeing. But what do they really represent? Two of the leading organisations for sports judges and referees, AFCAM in France and IFSO at international level, have joined forces to carry out a major study into women in refereeing. It is called WINS. The first survey of its kind, it is funded by the European Union and has been carried out with the collaboration of nearly 4,000 female referees in some forty countries. The aim of the survey is to provide national sports federations with ideas and suggestions on how to accelerate the increase in the number of female referees. The final conference of the WINS project will be held on 5 October 2023 in Brussels.
