With less than 50 days to go before the opening of the Tokyo Games, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) held its annual general meeting in virtual mode on Tuesday, June 8th. There were no surprises. The body chaired by the Italian Francesco Ricci Bitti reiterated its total support for the organisation of the Tokyo Games and its confidence in their success despite the sanitary context. It also re-elected Sebastian Coe (World Athletics), Ugur Erdener (World Archery) and Nenad Lalovic (United World Wrestling), all IOC members, as ASOIF Council members for a new four-year term. Finally, ASOIF’s member federations approved amendments to the organisation’s statutes, which aim to improve gender balance in the representation of international federation delegates at the General Assembly. It is now written in black and white in the statutes that if an international federation intends to send the maximum number of three delegates to the ASOIF General Assembly, both sexes must be represented.
