The International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) is continuing its rapprochement with obstacle racing. After choosing this discipline to replace equestrian after the Paris 2024 Games, it has announced that it has made common cause with its world body – World Obstacle – to rename two major competitions on the international calendar in 2023. The World Championships and the World Cup in obstacle course racing will now bear the names of the two international federations. The first of the two competitions, scheduled for 14-17 September in Ghent, Belgium, becomes the Obstacle World Championships / UIPM 2023 OCR. It will feature a 100m sprint event, similar to the format introduced in the modern pentathlon. The second competition, the Ninja World Cup 2023, will be held from 27 to 30 July in Orlando, Florida. It will also bear the UIPM name, combined with the World Obstacle name.
