Uğur Erdener in an armchair

No nasty surprises for Uğur Erdener (pictured above). The Turkish leader, president of the International Archery Federation (World Archery) and IOC member, was elected president of SportAccord on Monday November 13. He succeeds Italy’s Ivo Ferriani, President of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF). A doctor by training who joined the IOC in 2008, Uğur Erdener was unanimously appointed by the members of the SportAccord Executive Committee. He thus adds a new hat to his solid collection of mandates in the Olympic movement: Chairman of the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission, member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Executive Committee and of the International Testing Agency (ITA) Board of Directors, Vice-President of ASOIF, President of the Turkish National Olympic Committee. Elected for a four-year term, he will lead SportAccord with a new executive committee, comprising Belgium’s Ingmar De Vos (International Equestrian Federation), Sweden’s Petra Sörling (International Table Tennis Federation), Latvia’s Einars Fogelis (International Luge Federation), American Beau Welling (World Curling Federation), Russian-Serbian Anna Arzhanova (World Confederation of Underwater Activities), Italian Riccardo Fraccari (World Baseball and Softball Confederation), and German Stephan Fox (International Muay Thai Federation).
