Meeting this week in Vienna, UEFA not only discussed the reform of the Champions League on Tuesday 10 May. The executive committee of the European football body also opened the file on Euro 2024 in Germany to establish the calendar. The continental tournament will start on 14 June at the Allianz Arena in Munich. It will end a month later, on Sunday 14 July, with the final at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The finals will take place in ten German cities divided into three regions: Berlin, Hamburg and Leipzig in the north/north-east; Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne in the west; Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich in the south. As UEFA explained in a statement, the Euro 2024 format has been designed to reduce the carbon impact of the competition, particularly in terms of travel for teams and fans. In the group stage, matches “will be held “in only two areas, to reduce distances for teams and supporters and to favor the delegations which travel by train or bus from their base camp to the venue“. At the same meeting, the UEFA Executive Committee also decided that the final of the Europa League Conference in 2023 would take place on 7 June at the Eden Arena in Prague. As for the body’s annual congress, its organisation has been awarded to the city of Lisbon. It is scheduled for 5 April 2023.
