Two hopefuls on the way out

Its exclusion from international competitions could soon clear the ranks of Russian figure skating. The RIA Novosti agency reports that the dance couple Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin (pictured above) are in advanced discussions to change their nationality and join the Israeli national team. Diana Davis is a Russian of American origin, the only daughter of the famous figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze, who also coaches Kamila Valieva. Her partner on the ice, Gleb Smolkin, is the son of a Russian actor, Boris Smolkin. Both dancers won the Warsaw Cup in 2021 and the silver medal at the Russian Championships last year. The decision on their change of nationality is not yet fully taken, but the announcement could come in the next few weeks. It could depend on the ongoing negotiations for a possible return of Russia to international competitions. The duo are training in the United States and have not yet competed in Russia this season.
