It’s done. With less than six years to go before the event, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has validated the provisional sports programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Like four years earlier in Paris, it will include 22 sports. They will be the same as for the 2024 edition: badminton, boccia, football for the blind, goalball, judo, canoeing, equestrian, table tennis, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, archery, athletics, powerlifting, seated volleyball, swimming, rowing, shooting, taekwondo, triathlon, wheelchair rugby, cycling. The IPC explains that it received applications from 33 international federations. A record. Its steering committee therefore rejected a third of them. The final programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games will be approved by the end of the year. Until then, the organising committee can continue to “explore” the possibility of adding two new sports, surfing and climbing. If approved, the LA 2028 Paralympic Games would be the most comprehensive in history in terms of sports and disciplines represented.
