Thomas Bach has changed his plans. According to the Japanese media, the IOC President will travel to Tokyo on July 9th, exactly two weeks before the opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games. He was originally scheduled to arrive in Japan on July 12th. Like John Coates before him, Thomas Bach will undergo a three-day quarantine in his hotel in the Japanese capital. Toshiro Muto, the general director of the organising committee, said he had been informed by the IOC of the change in Bach’s travel dates, but no explanation was given as to why he will arrive early. Thomas Bach was due to travel to Japan in May to attend the Olympic torch relay in Hiroshima. But his visit was cancelled because of the extension of the state of emergency in Tokyo and nearly a dozen other prefectures.
