The year of France

French rowing will not wait until 2024 and the Paris Games to be in full swing. The European Rowing Confederation confirmed it this week at its general assembly in Munich, on the sidelines of the European Multi-sport Championships: France will host three European events in 2023. The series will begin in Paris with the European Indoor Championships, then continue in Brive-la-Gaillarde with the European Under-19 Championships, and end in La Seyne-sur-Mer with the European Sea Rowing and Beach Sprint Championships. The continental body has also awarded the organisation of the European Senior Championships in 2023 to the Slovenian city of Bled. Finally, the 28 European nations present at the General Assembly elected Neville Tanzer of Switzerland as a new member of the Board. He was competing with the Greek Ioannis Vampras for the only vacant seat. Neville Tanzer will succeed the Serbian Nebosja Jevremovic, a European rowing veteran, whose term of office expires at the end of 2022.
