The World Championships go to Baku

The event promises to be a major one. The International Taekwondo Federation (World Taekwondo) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its creation next year in Baku. Meeting on Wednesday 25 May in Lausanne, the Council of the body decided to award the capital of Azerbaijan the organisation of the world championships in 2023. This edition of the world event will coincide with the 50th anniversary of World Taekwondo. Baku was in competition with the Chinese city of Wuxi, which should have hosted the World Championships last year, before giving up due to the health crisis. During the same meeting, which was attended by Thomas Bach, the World Taekwondo Council also decided to move the 2022 World Championships, originally planned for Cancun. The event will remain in Mexico, but will finally be held in Guadalajara.
