The village will open on a Thursday

Pékin 2022

It was about time. With less than 100 days to go before the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games (4-20 February), the Chinese organisers are finally lifting the veil on some of the details of the event. Zhang Jiandong, the vice-mayor of Beijing and vice-chairman of the organising committee (BOCOG), announced at a press conference that the Olympic villages should normally open their doors to delegations from Thursday 27 January, eight days before the opening ceremony. During the same press conference, one of the officials of the Chinese sports administration gave an update on the participation of Chinese athletes in the Beijing Games. He explained that 29 national teams were currently preparing for the different disciplines of the Winter Games, with about 480 athletes. China’s goal is to be present in all sports on the programme. In 2015, when Beijing won the race to host the 2022 Winter Games, China took part in only two-thirds of the 109 Winter Games events.
