The International Canoe and Kayak Federation (ICF) is increasingly eyeing the United States. This is evidenced by its decision to award the Americans the organisation of several major events in 2026, two years before the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The first combined world championships in marathon canoeing and stand up paddling will be held in Sarasota, Florida, where the world championships in junior and under 23 sprint canoeing are also due to be held in 2026 and the stand up paddle championships in 2024. The ICF has also chosen the USA, but this time Oklahoma, to host the World Slalom Championships in 2026. The event had not been awarded to North America since the 2014 edition. In addition, the 2026 World Sprint Canoe and Paracanoe Championships will be held in Poznan, Poland, for the first time since 2010.
