Is the game already up? According to The Times, UEFA will award Euro 2028 to the United Kingdom and Ireland. The continental body did not even have to decide between several candidates, as the British file was the only one submitted in time. The official announcement is expected on 7 April. The competition is expected to take place in England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The only remaining step for the countries involved would be to obtain government guarantees. These must be received by the end of the year. If not, a new call for bids will be launched by UEFA. The United Kingdom and Ireland had at one time considered entering the race for the 2030 World Cup, before changing their strategy and aiming instead for the 2028 World Cup. A winning choice. Italy, for its part, postponed its bidding project by four years, preferring to concentrate on the 2032 edition. Turkey, which had also been announced as a candidate, decided not to bid after a series of unsuccessful attempts to organise the continental tournament.
