The two committees become one

The trend is growing. After the United States, Norway and South Africa, a new country has decided to combine its National Olympic and Paralympic Committees into a single entity. Saudi Arabia is joining the movement, with the creation earlier this week in Riyadh of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The decision was ratified at the annual general meeting of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee. The new body will accompany the preparation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes, with the stated ambition of providing them with equal support. Saudi Arabia has been present at the Olympic Games since Munich in 1972, but made its debut at the Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. The country has never before participated in the Winter Games. Saudi Arabia will host the World Combat Games in 2023, followed by the Asian Games in 2034.
