The relay started

Political events have pushed it into the background, but the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games torch relay began on Wednesday 2 March, two days before the official opening of the event. Like its Olympic counterpart, it is reduced to its simplest expression: three days, not one more, but 565 torchbearers. The route was reduced to the competition clusters, namely Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. On Wednesday, the torch from Stoke Mandeville, England, was lit by a senior official of the regime, Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan. The relay started at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, in front of 400 guests, including a handful of Chinese Communist Party members. The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games will be held from 4 to 13 March.
