The presidency is shared

It’s about time. With less than a year to go before the event, the organizing committee of the 2024 Winter Youth Games in Gangwon, South Korea, finally has a president. It is double. Two multiple Olympic gold medalists, the South Koreans Sang-hwa Lee and Jong-oh Jin, were appointed this week as co-presidents of the Gangwon 2024 YOGOC. Eleven executive committee members, including Gangwon 2024 ambassador, speed skater Yuna Kim, were also appointed. Sang-hwa Lee was the first Asian athlete to win two Olympic gold medals in speed skating at consecutive Winter Games – Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Jong-oh Jin was also the first athlete to win three pistol shooting events in consecutive Games – Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. He is the former head of the South Korean National Olympic Committee. The Gangwon Winter YOG is scheduled for January 19 to February 1, 2024. Approximately 1,900 athletes representing 81 countries are expected in South Korea.
