The most tested population in the world

The numbers remain stable at the Tokyo Games. According to the organizing committee, only sixteen new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Sunday, July 25th. Among them, three concern athletes living in the Olympic Village. With these new cases, the total number now reaches 148 since July 1st, when the Japanese organizers began the count of people related to the Games infected by the coronavirus. According to Mark Adams, the IOC spokesman, more than 200,000 tests have already been conducted in Tokyo since July 1st, among all accredited persons (athletes, staff, officials, media …). “This population is now by far the most tested in the world,” he suggested on Monday, July 26th, during the IOC and the Organizing Committee’s daily press briefing. The IOC staff, whose vaccination rate reaches 100%, has been tested everyday since its arrival in Tokyo. And it will remain so until the end of the event.
