The message will be in the jersey

Unexpected. According to its official equipment supplier, one of Argentina’s two shirts for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (20 November to 18 December) will carry a message in favour of gender equality. It was unveiled on Monday 29 August by Adidas and is a departure from the traditional navy blue and black jersey used for away matches, adopting a bright purple inspired by the sun of the national flag. It was designed by Lionel Messi . “The new national team jersey sends a powerful message of gender equality, aligned with the values of diversity and inclusion that our brand promotes,” explained Adidas Argentina general manager Pablo Lamo in a statement. “Through sport, we have the opportunity to change people’s lives, and football is one of the ideal tools for this”. According to Adidas, the purple away shirt also embraces the cause of sustainability, as it is made in part with material made from recycled plastic. At the 2022 World Cup, Argentina has been placed in Group C, along with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
