The Germans make up numbers

The list of athletes affected by the virus continues to grow in Beijing. On Thursday 3 February, the day before the opening of the Winter Games, Germany made a massive contribution. No fewer than six of its athletes, all of whom arrived in the Chinese capital on the same day, tested positive for COVID-19. One German athlete, figure skater Nolan Seegert, had already tested positive. The German delegation alone has now had seven cases of the coronavirus. According to a statement from the National Olympic Committee (DOSB), the infected athletes have no symptoms, but have been isolated from the rest of the delegation. Their identities have not been disclosed. The other 78 athletes who arrived on the same flight tested negative at Beijing airport. According to the Chinese organisers, 287 participants in the Games tested positive in Beijing, a contingent of infected people that includes athletes, coaches, officials, media and organisational staff.
