The door remains closed for Russians and Belarusians

Vadym Guttzait has been heard. Meeting on Saturday 26 November in Lausanne, the Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation voted by a very large majority to maintain the ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions: 104 votes for, 30 against and 1 abstention. The body therefore continues to support the recommendation of the IOC Executive Board. The Ukrainian Minister of Sport, who is also the President of the National Olympic Committee and the Fencing Federation, has written many letters to the FIE and its member countries over the past few months, requesting that the suspension of the athletes from the two warring countries be maintained. The issue will be discussed again at an extraordinary FIE Congress in March 2023. Fencing will then be close to the start of the qualification phases for the Paris 2024 Games.
