The day of liquidation

The end is nigh for GAISF. At an extraordinary general meeting on Thursday 14 September, its members approved the final stages of its liquidation. The World Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), formerly SportAccord, has been consigned to the dustbin of history. It no longer exists in its former form, but some of its activities will be taken over by SportAccord. The final general meeting, held on Thursday 14 September, approved the final balance sheet drawn up by the liquidators Ernst & Young, as well as the distribution of the proceeds of the liquidation to the various GAISF member organisations, including ASOIF for the international winter Olympic sports federations and AIOWF for the winter sports federations. SportAccord’s new statutes, which take over GAISF’s former activities, will be submitted to its members for approval at the next Forum of International Federations, to be held in Lausanne in November. In particular, they provide for a revised governance structure, in which all the components – ASOIF, AIOWF, but also ARISF for the international federations of sports recognised by the IOC and AMIS for the independent members – will be represented.
