The Concorde in urban sports mode

Paris 2024

Urban sports will not be the worst off at the Paris 2024 Games. The organising committee unveiled it in a press release: 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle, street and park skateboarding, and breaking, two official disciplines and two additional sports, will be gathered on the same competition site, the Place de la Concorde. “At the crossroads of the Tuileries Gardens and the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Champs-Elysées, the Parc Urbain de la Concorde will showcase Paris’ heritage while hosting spectacular, dynamic and modern sports,” announced the OCOG. The facilities will be temporary, but the organisers have thought big, with a capacity of nearly 37,000 spectators. For the first time in the history of the Games, a single venue will host all the urban sports disciplines, with 208 athletes and perfect parity. Concerts and sports demonstrations will also be organised alongside Olympic events, with the ambition of making the event “spectacular, popular, accessible and more festive than ever”.
