The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) can breathe easy: the next edition of the Asian Cup has no shortage of contenders. The continental tournament was originally awarded to China. But the host country was forced to withdraw due to health restrictions imposed by the Chinese authorities. Four countries have officially submitted bids to replace China and host the Asian Cup in 2023: Australia, South Korea, Indonesia and Qatar. Of these, only Indonesia has never hosted the competition, which is held every four years. Australia hosted it in 2015, South Korea in 1960, Qatar in 1988 and 2011. The AFC will announce its choice on October 17.
